Consejo Regulador del Tequila (CRT) and AliasSmith have the pleasure to present the TequilaMaestro course, compiling with the scheme of the CRT. The course is aimed at sommeliers, bar staff, food- and drinks journalists.
The course is held by Claes Puebla Smith who is the appointed representative by CRT to give this course. The course will be held during two days and entitle to a diploma for the students that pass the test.
The diplomas will be given on a ceremony honored by the Mexican ambassador in Sweden
COURSE CONTENT
Part 1. Introduction to tequila (approx. 3 hours)
This part of the course gives basic knowledge on the history of tequila, the agave plant, manufacturing and ageing, the different types of tequila and how to drink tequila. During the course we will taste seven different tequilas and point out the differences in origin, manufacturing and ageing, and learn how this affects the final result of tequila.
Part 2. Tequila in depth course (approx. 6 hours)
This part of the course goes in-depth about tequila. For the following themes:
What is tequila?
1. The norm and CRT - We will walk through the norm and the regulations
2. Agave - the cultivation and the plants importance to the tequila
3. Manufacturing - The full process
4. The history - The Indians, the Spanish, the first concession, the revolution and modern tequila history
5. Food and tequila- We will be sampling tequila with different kind of food to show the many possibilities of combinations.
Tequila tasting methodology:
1. How to drink tequila - The goal is for the participants to by the end of the course be able to recognize processes that have been used in the making of certain tequilas by smelling the aromas.
2. Tasting of about 25 different tequilas
Part 3. Tasting of several tequilas
Open session in order to calibrate tasting methodology. All the members of the course are welcome to visit the tasting studio to exercise their nose and tasting skills.
Part 4. Examination (approx. 1 hour)
The test includes a theoretical part and a blind tasting of five different agave spirits.
All the material we will be using and print-outs on what we have been studying are this course is.
The participants will receive their diplomas after having passed a written exam.

The Mexican ambassador in Sweden, Norma Pensado, has given the diploma to 16 prominent persons that has done the course 2008 and 2009.
CONDITIONS AND HOW TO REGISTER
The course costs 5 500 SEK exkl. VAT.
The vacancies are limited and the register fee is due 3 weeks before the course starts. The full register fee is returned if the participant notifies his/her absence a week before the course starts. If the participant does not notify this, only 50% of the fee is returned.
