Agave de Cortes Joven

Smoky, elegant, beautiful!

Color, aroma and taste
Clear color. Aromas of raw agave, aromatic herbs and gentle smoke, with soft, velvety taste and sweet smoky finish. Truly elegant mezcal.

Serve and combine
Ideal in cocktails and drinks as well as slightly chilled as an aperitif or digestive in a snifter. This mezcal is the perfect companion for fish and seafood.

Production
Agave de Cortes grows their agave in the town of Santiago Matatlán, in the state of Oaxaca. Where the distillery is also situated. The production is extremely handcrafted in all aspects from harvest to bottle. The agave is cooked using underground pits with volcanic stones heated with mesquite wood and the juice is fermented in vats of pine wood. Mezcal Agave de Cortes is distilled twice in small copper pot stills.

About the distillery
The Cortes family produces traditional mezcal from the state of Oaxaca, “the World Capital of Mezcal” since 1887. Inheriting the tradition and knowledge from generation to generation in order to provide an enriching experience for the soul and to consolidate Mezcal as the traditional Mexican spirit of the world. The mescals are made by experienced Zapotec Maestros Mezcalilleros from Oaxaca’s central valley.

El Jolgorio Joven, Agave Madrecuixe

An exclusive Mezcal made of the rear and wild Madrecuixe Agave. Yearly production: 252 lt!

Color, aroma and taste
Clear color. Aromas of cooked agave, cedar and herbs. Taste of ripe pear, dark cherry and aloe with a light smokiness and intensity of raw agave.

Serve and combine
Ideal slightly chilled as an aperitif or digestive in a snifter or as base for refreshing cocktails and drinks with citrus and agave. This mezcal is the perfect companion for fish, seafood and cold cuts.

Manufacturing and aging
The agave Madrecuixe, or Tobasiche in Zapotec, grows wild in Santa María Zoquitlán, Oaxaca and matures for 13 to 15 years. The distillery is situated in the town of Santiago Matatlán, Oaxaca. The production is extremely handcrafted in all aspects from harvest to bottle. The agave is cooked using underground pits with volcanic stones heated with mesquite wood and then pressed using a traditional tahona (a quarry wheel of stone) pulled by horses. The juice is then fermented in vats of pine wood and distilled twice in small copper pot stills. Mezcal el Jolgorio is only produced in extremely limitited batches.

El Jolgorio Joven, Agave Espadín

Espadín Mezcal made in perfection. Yearly production: 660 lt!

Color, aroma and taste
Clear color. Rich and fresh aroma of mint, eucalyptus, herbs and minerals. A crisp fresh taste with notes of citrus, rosemary, thyme and a long warm smoky finish.

Roberto Real Reynoso hämtar upp mig i Guadalajara för att skjutsa mig till hans destilleri. Kl är 7 på morgonen och killen har redan varit uppe i 3 timmar. Själv var jag mycket nöjd med att jag lyckades förhandla ner tiden då han skulle plocka upp mig till 7. Bilfärd till destilleriet

Inflygning till Mexiko och Guadalajara 2009



Tres Toños Reposado kommer att lanseras på Systembolagets fasta sortiment den 1 oktober 2009. Jag åker till Mexiko för att vara med i tappning och buteljering av tequilan men också för att besöka lite fler destillerier. I denna den första delen av vårt videoblogg har jag just landat i Mexiko City för vidarefärd till Guadalajara.
